Free battery replacement of iPhone 6s by Apple

Apple Inc. said it would give customers world-wide with a free battery replacement for iPhone 6s devices that unexpectedly shut down.

The announcement Sunday came less than a week when a Chinese consumer-protection group said it received reports of iPhone 6s devices spontaneously shutting down although half their battery life remained. it is the second time within the past 3 years the company has offered a battery-replacement program for iPhones.

The replacement plan comes 2 months after Samsung electronics Co. moved to replace millions of its Galaxy Note seven phone due to battery fires.

Unlike Samsung, Apple said the iPhone 6s battery issue isn’t a safety matter and solely affects a limited series of iPhone 6s devices manufactured in Sept and Oct 2015. concerned customers should contact Apple online, visit an Apple store or authorised service provider to find out whether or not a specific device is eligible for a fix—wireless carriers aren’t participating.

Apple’s announcement left a number of queries unanswered, including when Apple learned of the matter and why Apple thinks the shutdowns are associated with the battery. Apple also didn’t specify how it concluded only phones manufactured in those 2 months are affected and whether or not those phones used a different battery, or battery provider, than other phones.

For at least a year, customers have reported iPhone 6s devices were powering off and not restarting until after they had been plugged in, according to Apple support forums.

Apple announced the battery-replacement program few days after they announced a separate repair program for iPhone 6 plus devices. the company last week said it might repair iPhone 6 plus devices with displays that flickered or had touch-screen problems for $149 provided the screen wasn’t cracked or broken. the company said the iPhone 6 plus problems were occurring in phones that had been dropped multiple times on a hard surface.

Analyst Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research downplayed the iPhone problems, saying the phones were manufactured over a year ago, and Apple already has level up onto a new generation, the iPhone 7, which hasn’t had similar problems. The timing of the iPhone 6s battery-replacement program—on the heels of the Chinese consumer-protection group raising issues regarding it--“probably isn’t coincidental,” he said.

China is crucial to Apple’s future. the company is investing heavily there, tho' sales are sliding as competition ramps up from homegrown rivals. Revenue in greater China, which incorporates Hong Kong and Taiwan, fell 17 November within the fiscal year ended Sept. 24 after growing 84% prior year.

In 2013 and 2014, Apple made changes when being accused by state-run China Central tv of skirting warranties on iPhones and tracking user locations. China sometimes uses state-run media and semiofficial sites to signal permissible, and impermissible, behaviour to foreign companies.

The company last offered a battery-replacement program in 2014 for iPhone 5 devices that were experiencing a shorter battery life.

If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.

Removable batteries vs Non-removable Batteries

A very common question lurks in everyone's mind Removable batteries or Non-Removable Batteries which one is better. This post discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Removable and Non-Removable Batteries.

Removable Batteries

Smartphones with removable batteries are the ones which allows Users to easily remove the battery unit from the host phone at their ease. They can simply open the back panel and pull the battery safely.

Advantages:

  • Easy Restart option - Sometimes when the phone is not responding to any instruction then pulling out the battery and putting it back (also known as hard reset) is the simplest thing which come to our mind. When you switch on the device after this Device probably starts working normally.
  • Carrying additional battery -  Well now major people have power bank but keeping them aside. In a device where you can remove battery whenever you want you get an advantage of carrying a same battery. Having an additional battery is very useful you can use it whenever you phone battery died and swap the batteries and your battery is back to 100%. (Power bank can never be this fast :p)
  • Replacement - If you feel like your battery back up is not up to the mark or the battery is not working properly. You can replace your battery very easily.  Even you can replace it on your own.
Disadvantages:

  • Phone might get damaged by constant removal - Well, if you remove your battery from the device frequently theirs a chance that you might damage your device or your battery might get loosed up and won't fit properly.
  • Bulkier phones - In today's time everyone wants there phone to be light weigh but if you won't a phone which is light and you can remove it's battery than my friend this is quite difficult as manufactures have to leave much space so that removal of battery can be done easily without damaging any other part.
So, this was a quick discussion over merits and demerits of a device with Removable battery.
Now Let's talk about devices with Non-Removable batteries.

Non-Removable batteries

If you recently brought or used a smart phone launched within few months then you might have noticed you don't have any access to battery or you can't pull the back panel. Even if you can you won't be able to remove battery. these kind of devices come under the category of Non-Removable devices.

Advantages:

  • Design -  Because of this New smartphones have a Unibody design and are getting slimmer and slimmer. Which is attractive and look beautiful
  • Lesser damage to interior - As we can no longer access the interior of the Smartphone the risk of damaging the interior is also reduced. And chances of dust particles going inside the smartphone is also reduced.

Disadvantages:

  • Changing battery is Costlier and Expertise job - Company strictly instruct users not to try removing the battery all by themselves, because it requires expertise and tools which are not available commonly. And above this the cheaper replacement units available with local sellers are hard to find. The only option you would be left with is taking your phone to the company’s service center to get it changed.
  • NO Reset Shortcuts - Earlier users can plug out the battery and Give a Hard Reset to their devices but as we don't have access to battery anymore we have to depend upon Power button or a key combination to reset the device.

And the discussion ends here. Please comment what do you think which one better and why?
